REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND ROCK DISTRIBUTIONS OF THE MARS PHOENIX LANDING SITE. T. Heet

چکیده
Introduction: In May 2008 the Phoenix Lander descended into the north polar region of Mars. It landed at 68.22 N, 234.25 E in a shallow valley about 20 km west of a 10 km crater named Heimdall. Phoenix imaged local geomorphology, determined local ice table depth and analyzed 19 soil samples from within a ~15 m 2 work volume. Important to

The geology of the Viking Lander 2 site revisited
Reevaluating the geologic history of the prior Mars landing sites provides important ground truth for recent and ongoing orbital missions. At the Viking 2 Lander (VL2) site, topographic measurements of relict landforms indicate that at least 100 m of sedimentary mantle material has been stripped away. The observed paucity of impact craters <100 m in diameter suggests that resurfacing processes ...
متن کاملRock Abrasion and Landscape Modification by Windblown Sand as Documented by the Msl Curiosity Rover
Introduction Mars is a dry planet, with actively blowing sand in many regions [1-5]. In the absence of stable liquid water and an active hydrosphere, rates of chemical weathering are slow, such that aeolian abrasion is a dominant agent of landscape modification where sand is present and winds above threshold occur at sufficient frequency. Reflecting this activity, ventifacts, rocks that have be...
متن کاملMars sedimentary geology: key concepts and outstanding questions.
Processes that operate at planetary surfaces have the potential to record a history of planetary evolution in the form of sedimentary rocks. This is important because our experience on Earth shows that sediments and sedimentary rocks are the dominant archive of high-resolution proxies of present and past tectonic, climatic, and biological processes. Our understanding of the evolution of Earth’s...
متن کاملRock typing and reservoir zonation based on the NMR logging and geological attributes in the mixed carbonate-siliciclastic Asmari Reservoir
Rock typing is known as the best way in heterogeneous reservoirs characterization. The rock typing methods confine to various aspects of the rocks such as multi-scale and multi-modal pore types and size, rock texture, diagenetic modifications and integration of static/dynamic data. Integration of static and dynamic behavior of rocks and their sedimentary features are practiced in this study. Po...
متن کاملAssessment of spectral properties of Apollo 12 landing site
The geology and mineralogy of the Apollo 12 landing site has been the subject of recent studies that this research attempts to complement from a remote sensing point of view using the Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) sensor data, onboard the Chandrayaan-1 lunar orbiter. It is a higher spatial-spectral resolution sensor than the Clementine UVVis sensor and gives the opportunity to study the lunar sur...
